Concentration Meditations

The principle used in a concentration meditations is same as explained above, its core purpose to bring the meditator to a single pointedness where the thoughts fade away as the practitioner uses concentration to bring his focus to a single point. Concentration is not meditation, but it is just a device so that meditation can flourish. Concentration meditations can have quite a few variations and some of the common methods are:

  • Focusing on breath
  • Tratak or focusing on the candle flame
  • An image can be used that is uplifting such as a Guru or a symbol
  • Mandalas can be used as an image

For people looking for mindfulness and better concentration power, this type of meditation is very useful.
